Skin prep favorites from makeup artist Marlena von Kazmier
Rosewater helps maintain the skin’s pH balance, and also controls excess oil. Rosewater has anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce the redness of irritated skin, get rid of acne, dermatitis, and eczema.
As we age wrinkles start to appear deeper as the natural oil production decreases. Oils are lipophilic aka fat lovers, so they absorb through the skin faster and prevent water loss.
Also known as beauty balm, is a perfect mix of moisture and makeup that helps diffuse fine lines and covers minor skin imperfections.

Three skin prep products for a natural glow
Written by: Marlena von Kazmier
Most consumers feel inundated with skin care products and information that can be hard to understand without a cosmetic background. I want to share with you my 3 favorite skin preparation products that will help give you that healthy glow you often see in magazines or are reminiscent of how you looked before puberty.
“what you do underneath will help what you do on top”
If you’re anything like me you like to keep your day to day makeup fresh and clean looking. Personally I reserve my bold looks for special events or photo shoots. However, if you are one to be bold on a daily basis then skin prep is just as important if not more important to your daily beauty regime. What you do underneath will help what you do on top. What I mean by this is simple; a clean balanced skin surface will prepare your skin for a flawless makeup application every time or simply give you the best complexion you can obtain without going to the spa.
After washing with your favorite facial cleanser pat excess water off and spray 5-7 pumps of rose water all over face, neck and decollate. Before the rose water fully absorbs I like to apply face oil and then spray once more with rose water.
My favorite rose water mist is Evanhealy’s Rose Geranium Facial Tonic Hydro-Soul. This is perfect for everyone as it balances oily dry and combination skin. Evanhealy has very strict guidelines for its rose water and is made in small batches. “100% fresh plant hydrosol and nothing else. It is distilled in alembic copper at low temperatures over a period of three to four hours. This slow, labor-intensive artisan process creates a vitalizing and energetic hydrosol, offering subtle, aromatic benefits for all skin conditions. In contrast, conventional distillation utilizes stainless steel and high temperatures; the entire process lasting only thirty to forty-five minutes”. Evanhealy’s Rose Geranium Facial Tonic Hydro-Soul is super fancy, organic and is made in the USA
This rosewater will make you feel fresh as a flower!
It’s no secret that hydrated skin is essential to the maintenance of a healthy completion. My must have moisture boost is a face oil and my favorite one is undoubtedly Jao Brand’s Seed Face Oil.
I was introduced to Jao Brand through a fellow makeup artist friend who swore by their amazing hand refresher and since then I’ve been hooked on their entire product line. Jao’s Seed Face Oil is quite possibly the best face oil I have ever come across.
The main oil in its blend is plum see oil which is full of fatty acids aka the good fats. Science has proven the many benefits of eating foods rich in fatty acids and the same benefits that you ingest by eating them can be used to keep your skin supple and hydrated when used topically. This oil comes in a convenient roller applicator so you can control just how much or how little you want and bring it with you
everywhere you go. I like to press or pat the oil into the face and neck if I use an additional moisturizer as to not mix them together but if I’m going in with just oil then I will massage it into the face and neck first and allow it to sit for 2-5 min then pat the rest in.
Jao prides itself on helping lessen the carbon footprint and make multi-purpose packaging. The cylindrical tube that the oil container comes in doubles as a great cotton swab, bobby pin, or anything that you can fit into it holder. Jao Brand is “Made with love in Pennsylvania” and has definitely stolen my heart.
Every artist has their secret and I’m no different. Ok, well maybe my secret is not such a secret after all it’s a BB cream. This is not just any BB cream, it’s a staple in my makeup kit; Embryolisse’s Secret de Maquilleurs which translates to secret makeup is just what its name implies. This beauty balm is part makeup part skin resurfacer and a fine line filler that will even out your skin tone with a sheer tint. It can be used on its own for a radiant glow that will keep your skin hydrated and fresh looking all day, or as a primer underneath your favorite makeup to boost glow and screams healthy beautiful skin. I love to pair this bb with a cream blush on cheeks, lips and eyelids for a natural fresh appearance.
